The Kit
What's in a Novavo kit?
Every kit includes a one-button digital voice recorder, 150 prompt cards sorted by life chapter, instruction cards, and a USB-C charging cable. You also get free access to the Legacy Book app where your recordings are transcribed and organized.
Is Novavo only for recording parents?
No. Most of our customers record a parent, but the kit works just as well for a grandparent, a partner, an aunt or uncle, or anyone whose story and voice you want to preserve. The 150 prompt cards cover universal life experiences like childhood, love, lessons, and reflections. They're not specifically parent-child topics. Adapt them to the person you're recording.
Can one kit record more than one person?
Yes. One kit can record as many people as you want. All the audio is uploaded to the same Legacy Book. If you'd prefer separate books for each person, or want to record alongside a sibling, we offer a Family Kit (2 kits) at a reduced price.
What's the difference between a single kit and the Family Kit?
A single kit ($79) gives you one recorder, one set of 150 prompt cards, and one Legacy Book. The Family Kit ($119) includes two complete kits. It's useful if you want two people in your family to record separately, or if you want a dedicated kit per parent so each has their own book.
Does the recorder need WiFi?
No. The recorder records offline, anywhere. Kitchen table, living room, park bench, hospital room. WiFi is only needed when you upload the audio to the Legacy Book app afterward.
How does the audio get from the recorder to the app?
Plug the recorder into your phone or computer with the included USB-C cable. The recorder shows up as a regular drive. No software or drivers needed. Drag the audio file into the Novavo app. That's it.
How long can the recorder record for?
20+ hours of continuous recording on a single charge. The internal 16GB storage holds up to 999 audio files. For most users, one charge lasts through many recording sessions.
What if the person I'm recording isn't tech-savvy?
They never need to touch technology. The recorder has one main button. You press it, they talk, you press it again when they're done. No apps, no phones, no accounts, no passwords. You handle the upload and the app afterward.
Does the recorder work internationally?
Yes. The recorder charges via USB-C. Use any standard USB-C charger (the same type used by most modern phones). It works on any power system worldwide.
The Legacy Book App
What is the Legacy Book?
The Legacy Book is the digital archive where your recordings live. After you upload audio, the app transcribes it, helps you split longer recordings into individual stories, and lets you organize everything into chapters. You can share the finished book with family, who can listen from any device.
Where is my audio stored?
Recordings are stored privately in your Legacy Book account, hosted on secure cloud infrastructure (Google Cloud). Only you and the family members you explicitly invite can access them. Your recordings are never shared, sold, or used to train AI models.
How does transcription work?
When you upload a recording, the app automatically transcribes it using OpenAI Whisper. You'll see the full transcript on the recording page within a few minutes. You can edit any mistakes. Names, dates, or words the AI misheard.
Does the app support languages other than English?
The current version of the Legacy Book app transcribes recordings in English. If the person you're recording speaks another language, the audio is still captured perfectly. You just won't get an English transcript.
Can I share the Legacy Book with my family?
Yes. You can generate a share link and send it to up to 4 family members. They create free listener accounts and access the book from any device. Phone, tablet, laptop. Listeners can play every story and read transcripts, but can't edit the book or add recordings.
Can more than 4 people listen?
Up to 4 listener slots per book. If you have more than 4 family members who want access, you can rotate who has an active slot. You can remove and add listeners at any time.
Can I export the finished book?
Not yet. The Legacy Book is currently listen-only through the app, which means all recordings stay safely in one place. Export features (downloading stories as audio files or exporting the full book as a document) are planned for a future release.
Do I need to install an app?
No. The Legacy Book runs entirely in your web browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) and is fully mobile-responsive. Nothing to download or install.
Is there a subscription fee?
No. Novavo is a one-time purchase. Your Legacy Book, your recordings, and your 4 listener slots are yours permanently with no ongoing cost.
Using Novavo
How do I start recording?
Slide the power switch on the side of the recorder to ON. Press the red REC button in the middle to start recording. Read a prompt card aloud and let them respond. Press STOP when you're done. The recording saves automatically.
How long should a recording session be?
There's no right answer. Some sessions are 10 minutes around a single question. Others turn into an hour because the stories keep coming. Record at whatever pace feels natural. There's no set schedule.
What if they say no?
Most people are honored to be asked. They've often been waiting for someone to show genuine interest in their story. If they're hesitant, try keeping it casual: "I got these story cards, can we try just one question after dinner?" Starting small usually breaks the resistance.
Do I have to use all 150 cards?
No. You can use as many or as few as you want, in any order. Some families work through all of them over months. Others focus on a handful of favorite questions. There's no completion requirement. One recorded story is infinitely better than zero.
How is this different from StoryWorth?
StoryWorth uses weekly email prompts that the person writes answers to, which get compiled into a printed book at the end of the year. Novavo captures voice. Actual recordings of the person telling their stories out loud. The person being recorded doesn't need to write, type, or use technology. And Novavo is a one-time purchase, not an annual subscription.
What if I can't listen to the recordings right now?
Your recordings don't go anywhere. They're saved, transcribed, and organized in your Legacy Book, waiting for whenever you're ready. Next week, next year, or further down the road. Many families record now and revisit later.
Shipping & Delivery
Where do you ship?
We ship to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and select other countries. If you're unsure whether we ship to your country, contact us and we'll confirm.
How long does shipping take?
Orders ship within 1–2 business days. Delivery typically takes 5–7 business days after shipment. You'll receive a tracking link by email once your order is on the way.
Is shipping free?
Yes. Free shipping is included on every order.
Are taxes and duties included?
For orders within the United States, all applicable taxes are included at checkout. For international orders (UK, EU, Canada, Australia), local customs duties and import VAT may be charged on delivery by your country's customs authority. We recommend checking your country's import threshold if you're uncertain.
Can I track my order?
Yes. A tracking link is emailed to you once your order ships. You can also view your order status by logging into your account.

Every Novavo kit is backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you're not satisfied for any reason, contact us within 30 days of receiving your kit for a full refund.
Can I use the kit and still return it?
Yes. You can use the kit, record stories, and still return it within 30 days if it's not right for your family. We want you to try it fully before deciding.
How do I start a return?

What if my kit arrives damaged?
Contact us immediately and we'll replace it at no cost. Include a photo if possible.
